Virginia Pilegard to Speak at
ANCA Annual Meeting
September 17, 2010 ~ 6 - 8 p.m. ~ Please join us for the ANCA (Arne Nixon Center Advocates) 2010 Annual Meeting. This year's guest speaker is picture book author, Virginia Walton Pilegard. The meeting will be held on the Fresno State campus in the Henry Madden Library. A reception will begin at
6:00 p.m. followed by a talk at 6:45 p.m. There is no admission charge for the event but RSVPs will be required.
Virginia Pilegard, who lives in Wishon, is known for her Warlord series of children's picture books. Set in ancient China, these strikingly illustrated books convey mathematical concepts and are included in the California State mathematics curriculum. Her latest book, The Emperor's Army: A Mathematical Adventure, tells a story of the creation of the Chinese terra cotta warriors. The book includes an historical note about their discovery in 1974 and provides instructions on how to make your own miniature clay soldier.
