Robert D. San Souci

Robert San Souci is well known for spooky stories like Cinderella Skeleton and for two frightening series, Dare to be Scared and Short & Shivery. Many of his other bestselling picture books are retellings of traditional tales; these include The Talking Eggs, Little Gold Star, Sister Tricksters, and Fa Mulan, a 2,000-year-old Chinese tale which he also converted into a movie story for Disney Studios. During a visit, Robert was kind enough to speak to us about his work and his latest series of scary stories, Haunted Houses: Are You Scared Yet?

Interview with Sid Fleischman

Sid Fleischman

Author Sid Fleischman has written well over 50 books for young people including his Newbery-award winning book entitled The Whipping Boy. Other favorite titles include By the Great Horn Spoon!, Bandit's Moon, The Ghost in the Noonday Sun, the McBroom series and many more. Sid was in Fresno to talk about his newest biography The Trouble Begins at 8: A Life of Mark Twain in the Wild, Wild West and to promote Fresno's Big Read which featured Mark Twain's Tom Sawyer. While he was here he visited the Center and spoke with us about his upcoming books, his life as an author, and the importance of libraries.

Interview with Carolyn Yoder

Carolyn Yoder

Carolyn Yoder is an editor for Calkins Creek Books, an imprint of Boyds Mills Press. She is also the author of several children's non-fiction books including George Washington: The Writer and John Adams: The Writer. She spoke with us about what she looks for in manuscript submissions; one of her favorite U.S. presidents, John Adams; and new trends she sees in children's non-fiction.
